SYLLABUS FOR IELTS

LISTENING

  • You will be presented with four recorded texts, which include monologues and dialogues by native speakers.
  • Subsequently, you will answer a series of questions designed to evaluate your comprehension of the main ideas, detailed information, viewpoints, and attitudes conveyed by the speakers.
  • The recordings showcase a range of voices and accents from native speakers, and each segment will be played a single time.

READING

  • The Reading section of the test, with 40 questions, evaluates your reading skills, including understanding of main ideas, key concepts, details, and logical arguments in a text.
  • In the Academic section, three extensive texts, varying from descriptive and factual to discursive and analytical, are included. These authentic texts are derived from various sources like books, journals, and periodicals.
  • Reading – General Training -This section involves reading excerpts from various sources like books, magazines, newspapers, notices, ads, and company documents.

WRITING

Academic Writing This consists of two parts:

– You’ll interpret a graph, table, chart, or diagram, and describe or explain the information. This could involve explaining data, process stages, how something works, or describing an object or event.

– You’ll write an essay responding to a viewpoint, argument, or problem.

General Training Writing This includes two tasks:

– You’ll write a letter (personal, semi-formal, or formal) requesting information or explaining a situation.

– You’ll write an essay responding to a viewpoint, argument, or problem.

SPEAKING

The Speaking section, taking 11-14 minutes, assesses your spoken English. It’s recorded and has three parts:

  • General questions about you and familiar topics.
  • You’ll talk about a topic from a given card, with one minute to prepare and up to two minutes to speak. The examiner will ask a few more questions on the topic.
  • More questions are asked, allowing you to discuss abstract issues and ideas.
